When purchasing a YubiKey, adopt a primary and backup key strategy. When setting up two-step login for an account, configure authentication for both the primary and backup keys simultaneously. In case the primary key is lost or stolen, the backup key can be used to log in to the account as a fallback. The backup key should also be stored securely.
