When purchasing a YubiKey, you should adopt a one master key, one backup key solution. When setting up two-factor authentication for an account, authenticate both the master key and the backup key. In case the master key is lost or stolen, the backup key can be used to log into the account as a fallback. The backup key should also be properly stored in a safe place.
